Welcome to Tautai o le Moana
Tautai o le Moana is a professional learning and development pathway ‘by Pasifika principals, for principals of Pasifika learners' focused on changing educational outcomes for Pasifika/Pacific students.
A key element of this pathway is strengthening leadership capabilities by engaging Principals in educational transformation through a process of deep learning, mentoring, coaching, critical conscientisation and collaboration. The emphasis is on change that is sustainable and enduring, with a focus on the goal of Pasifika educational success as Pasifika.
To strengthen leadership capabilities and improve outcomes for Pacific learners, and contribute to linguistically and culturally sustainable practices and processes across Aotearoa NZ.
Our Vision
Tautai
Tautai is a waka/va’a captain, wayfinder or navigator who is able to sail through deep-sea weather conditions beyond the horizon, with no land in sight. Tautai read the signs to know their place of origin, where they are positioned and where they are sailing to. Tautai bring people together and draw on their collective strengths to achieve agreed goals for the expedition.
For Tautai o le Moana, a tautai is a leader who is prepared to dig deep into their leadership, seek opportunities to co-construct and make decisions, take necessary risks, and drive the journey of change within their school and beyond to improve outcomes for Pasifika learners.
A tautai recognises that there are other world views within education, and have the heart and mind to grow their understanding, respect and beliefs to incorporate these into their school journey.
What else ToLM offers
Tautai o le Moana offers two additional programmes, Lalaga Tautua and Tapasa (see below), that align with supporting our leaders who want to enrich their skills and knowledge, but also stay connected with values that have been around forever.
Lalaga Tautua - Weaving leadership pathways for Pasifika school leaders
Led by Jerry Leaupepe
Lalaga Tautua is an initiative designed to intertwine the deep-rooted wisdom of Pasifika traditions with the evolving paradigms of modern educational leadership. Drawing inspiration from the ancestral art of weaving, 'lalaga', this programme symbolizes the integration of diverse experiences, knowledge and cultural insights, crafting a resilient leadership framework.
At its core, tautua embodies the spirit of service, emphasizing leadership that is anchored in integrity, humility and collective well-being. This initiative aims to cultivate leaders who resonate with this ethos, equipping them to spearhead transformative change within educational settings.
Lalaga Tautua recognizes the importance of blending cultural capital with the requisite Western leadership skills. By grounding participants in their rich cultural heritage, while also arming them with contemporary leadership strategies, they are prepared to adeptly address the multifaceted challenges of today's educational environment.
The vision of Lalaga Tautua is to foster a generation of leaders who are not only adept in skills and knowledge, but also deeply connected to values that have stood the test of time.
